GSA Signs MoU with USAID For Promoting Good Quality Fish Products
Accra. Wednesday, January 11, 2023. The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) signed a memorandum of understanding with Tetra Tech ARD, the prime Contractor for the USAID Feed the Future Ghana Fisheries Recovery Activity (GFRA). The MoU seeks to provide technical support in the development, promotion and education of national food safety standards and certification for the production of high-quality, value-added fish and fishery products in the country.
The project will be implemented under the USAID Feed The Future Ghana Fisheries Recovery Activity (GFRA).

The MOU spells out activities will be aimed at ‘increasing the quality and value of artisanal fish products to maintain household income and enhance the availability of nutritious foods for local and regional markets, and support to alternative livelihoods activities which will enhance the socio-economic well-being and resilience of artisanal fisherfolk’ .
Among the specific actions to be undertaken under the project are: Certification of fish processors under the SFCLS in Ghana – Review and institutionalize SFCLS with the GSA Fish Export Unit – Develop a national food safety standard for the Ghana artisanal fish processing sector – Promote discussions of SFCLS at the national and regional levels – Promotion of consumer awareness on hygienic and safe seafood production and consumption in Ghana – Support for the identification and development of new and higher markets for hygienic and safe fish in Ghana – Support with capacity building on hygienic and safe fish processing to improve the quality of seafood production in Ghana.
