Ghana’s much awaited Tilapia and Catfish Festival Comes of at the CSIR Food Research Institute, Accra, on Thursday, 25th and Friday 26th July. Fish farmers and processors, industry professionals and food vendors will present a wide variety of traditional and modern delicacies to the public to taste and buy. Two important events, a Stakeholders Forum and a Farmers’ Forum will form part of the event.
A big publicity package has been designed for the Festival, comprising social media presentation, print and electronic media advertisements. There is not going to be a dull moment at the festival. DJ Bogaloo has been engaged to make sure nobody spends a minute at the event without tapping, shaking or even dancing.
The Tilapia and Catfish Festival is part of a programme designed by the Ghana National Aquaculture Association to ensure a massive increase in the patronage of fish farm products. The programme includes bulk delivery to hotels, restaurants and fast food joints, processing a significant portion of tilapia and catfish into various delicacies, and exports. It is expected that within a year, patronage of fish farm products would have appreciated by at least 30 per cent. In addition to making aquaculture truly profitable, it will enable Ghana to save substantial amounts of monies that are currently spent on fish imports, and significantly improve protein consumption among Ghanaians.
