Deaconess Foluke Areola of Nigeria has been chosen as the President-Elect of the World Aquaculture Society (WAS) for 2025
Prior to her election, she was the President of the African Chapter of the organization.
Deaconess Areola has recorded many years of distinguished service in fisheries and aquaculture policy, regulation, and development in Nigeria. She is a former President of the Fisheries Society of Nigeria. She has been actively involved in the promotion of aquaculture across Africa.
She is the first African and the first woman to attain this prestigious position, and she is expected to use it to promote African and global aquaculture.
