The Association organized the first of a series of training courses for fish farmers on 29th and 30th April at Weija, in collaboration with three major agencies – the Fisheries Commission, the Environmental Protection Authority, the Water Resources Commission, and the FAO. The course was designed to serve several objectives.
It was aimed at explaining the procedures of the three regulatory agencies for acquiring permits for starting fish farms. It was also aimed at exposing participants to the issue of Anti-Microbial Resistance, the dangers it poses to the aquaculture industry and human health, and effective ways to deal with it. And crucially, it was aimed at equipping participants with important skills and information for running efficient, profitable farms.
The course was, to say the least, very successful, and we will be running it across the Regions and Districts. We are very grateful to the Regional Director of the Commission, Ms. Matilda Ajikameh and her colleagues for the success of the program.
